Dot5 was formed in 2002 and has since become a leading player in the web hosting world, with a promise of top notch customer service, great value for money and excellent technical back up, as well as hosting packages that can be used by personal users through to mediums sized businesses.
With many awards to its name across the years, Dot5 is clearly a company that has done much right in the past, and with a decent package to offer is still providing a decent service today.
Value For Money
The basic Dot5 package is one that offers a great deal of functions and facilities for a price of $4.95 per month. While there is nothing special about this price it is absolutely on the button in terms of what you would expect to pay for a package that includes a free domain name, unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, free email, 24 hour access and FTP accounts, full back up and technical service and much more. There are many aspects of such a package that we would consider standard, but we judge on how good the overall package is, and this one looks to be a very good all round deal indeed.
Reliability
The guarantees for reliability that come with the Dot5 package are as many others – 99.9% and with payback if not achieved. We have scoured the internet for customer comments about this set up and have found it difficult to find a bad word about Dot5, so clearly they are doing something right in all areas. Testimonies range from the ‘excellent’ to the ‘pretty good for $5’ and we consider that to be praise all round; dual redundant servers add to the appeal, and Dot 5 scores highly on the reliability stakes for this reason and for being able to claim for good results.
Customer Support
The 24hr technical back up offered here at Dot5 is what you would expect, and yet it is how it is perceived by those who use it that adds to the score. As above, we found it very hard to find anyone with anything negative to say about Dot5, and when it comes to customer service the praise was high indeed. What more can we say than that consistently satisfied customers are a major selling point?
Control Panel
A decent if standard looking control panel is something that is a surprise with the Dot5 package – there’s nothing wrong with it, we just expected a little more verve given the all-round excellence of the rest of the package. Nevertheless, it does what it says on the tin, and provides easy access and navigation with no complaints at all.
Environment
Like most in this business there is little in the way of dedication to green issues, yet the hosting industry as a whole is one that manages to make great strides into environmentally aware areas without much effort and by its very nature alone.
