Startlogic is one of the larger hosting companies around, with a customer base of more than 100,000 web hosting clients. The company was founded by Thomas Gorny in 2003 and they have since grown into one of the top rated web hosts with various awards to their credit. Startlogic believes that a thorough understanding of customer needs and expectations is the key to success and their innovative products definitely attests to that.
Startlogic does not have a one size fits all policy like many of their competitors, they have four products that are each designed to address a specific need in the market. Apart from their fully featured standard packge, they also offer a basic product with limited features that is ideal for the home user with a limited budget. They also offer a Windows hosting package, as well as a VPS option for larger customers.
The flagship ProLogic package offer a variety of value adds, including the popular CM4all website builder and hundreds of free website templates. To promote your website you receive a 500 page marketing manual and $75 advertising credits to promote your site via Google and Yahoo. Your control panel includes pre-configured scripts for popular applications like Wordpress, Joomla, phpBB and much more. Various multimedia and e-commerce applications are also included.
Value For Money
Startlogic is one of the few hosts that offer a month-to-month contract, instead of the 12 month minimum contract that most hosts offer. Inside the $6.95 per month ProLogic package you get a free domain name, unlimited bandwidth & disk space and unlimited email accounts. Customers looking for a cheaper alternative can go for the scaled down PersonalLogic package at $4.95 per month.
Reliability
Startlogic offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee and they utilize two top notch data centres in the Boston, MA area. A pooled server architecture, network attached storage and high speed load balancing devices ensure that a server is always available to process requests for your website.
Customer Support
Startlogic provides 24×7 support via live chat, email and a tollfree US phone number. Customers also have access to a noticeboard and email alerts to keep up to date with any outages or problems that may occur on the network. As is the case with all web hosting companies, you will find the odd bad review from a Startlogic customer in forums, but in general they have a good reputation for their customer service and ability to address problems quickly.
Control Panel
Startlogic employs the relatively new vDeck control panel. Compared to the user friendly cPanel (the most popular control panel), vDeck is a bit more complicated and probably better suited for advanced webmasters and e-commerce websites. vDeck does however offer all the features that cPanel has, it may just take a little longer for home users to get used to.
